Elegant Automation is a home automation, lighting and AV company in Greater Houston. We design, install, program and look after the technology in people's houses — and we'd rather take care of the home and the people in it than sell anyone a bigger system than they need.
We're small and senior on purpose. When you call, you reach the people who design and program your system, and who answer the phone themselves.
Four companies, one team
Elegant Automation unites four established Houston technology companies under a single banner — decades of combined experience in system design, installation, custom programming and service, now working as one team.
Integrated System Design Texas, Creative Lighting & Automation, Home Theater Evolutions and Halcyon Technologies are all now Elegant Automation.
That is not a merger story so much as a career one. Our founders have started, owned and sold audio-video companies in this city for the better part of thirty years, and each move was made in the same direction: closer to the customer, with fewer people between the person who takes the call and the person who does the work. Elegant Automation is where that ends up.
Mission Control
A founder of Elegant Automation, during his time as founding principal of an earlier AV firm, was trusted to program the interactive Apollo Mission Control restoration (2018–2019).
The room is the one in Houston that flew Apollo 11. It is a National Historic Landmark, restored to how it looked in July 1969, and the consoles in it are meant to come alive for visitors rather than sit behind rope. Somebody had to make that happen reliably, every day, in a room where nothing modern is allowed to show.
We mention it for one reason: it is the same job as yours, at a different scale. Old hardware that has to keep working, a building nobody is allowed to tear into, and a result that has to feel effortless to the person standing in the room.
How we work
We keep the good hardware. If there are decent keypads, decent speakers or decent wire in your walls, we'd rather reuse them than sell you the pleasure of replacing them. Most of our lighting-control work is done on the existing wiring.
We're programmers, not just installers. When two systems don't speak to each other, or a discontinued panel needs to keep running a house, that's a software problem. We do that work in house instead of subcontracting it out.
We'll tell you no. If the plan is wrong for the house, we'd rather say so and lose the job than install something we know you'll be unhappy with in a year.
Big or small. A whole-home system and a television mounted straight are both work worth doing properly. We take both.
